Who Is Your God?

November 16th, 2008

We of the Christian faith profess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, our God. But is he truly our God in our hearts, thoughts, and actions?

(Exodus 20:3 KJV) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

(2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

(2 Corinthinans 10:5 AMP) [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and therories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

“Obedience of Christ.” Jesus taught that our actions are brought about by our thoughts, by what is in our hearts. That what we think is important.

(Matthew 5:27-28 KJV) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: {28} But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

(Luke 6:45 KJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

When I think of high things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God I think back to Isaiah, Lucifer said that he would exalt himself:

(Isaiah 14:12-14 KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! {13} For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: {14} I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Satan is the deceiver who seeks to set himself up before God in any way that we allow him to in all our lives.

What we think of God, our knowledge of God if you will is critical to us. It should be Biblically based and we should cast down “imaginations and every high thing” that comes against that knowledge.

Here is a basic course in “the knowledge of God.” Good things come from God and bad things from “the thief.”

(John 10:10 KJV) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

What does God say about the situation? That too is part of the “knowledge of God.” What is our response to that in our situation? What things are our minds imagining?

(Matthew 8:17 KJV) That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

(Psalms 103:2-6 KJV) Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: {3} Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; {4} Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; {5} Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. {6} The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

Unbelief and lack of faith exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. Only Joshua and Calaeb entered the promised land.

(Jude 1:5 KJV) I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Where is our hope? In the lottery? In luck? In whose name do we give blessings? Is “good luck” a blessing?

(Isaiah 65:11-12 NCV) But as for you who left the Lord, who forgot about my holy mountain who worship the god Luck, who hold religious feasts for the god Fate, {12} I decide your fate, and I will punish you with my sword. You will all be killed, because I called you, but you refused to answer. I spoke to you, but you wouldn’t listen. You did the things I said were evil and chose to do things that displease me.

The knowledge of God says that He is our hope and source.

(Genesis 14:21-23 KJV) And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. {22} And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, {23} That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

(Genesis 15:1 KJV) After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

(Philippians 4:19 KJV) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

(Psalm 91:14 AMP) Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness--trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no never].

Who is your God? It was not my intention to condemn anyone but to challenge us all to think on how much better the promises of God are compared to the promises of the world and that we need to guard to keep anything from setting itself up before God in our lives.

Perhaps we haven’t forsaken God, but are we flirting?

(Romans 8:1 KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

(2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
